Why does the train from Dublin to Cork take 2h50mins now when it only took 2h20minutes in 1997?

In 1997 some train services from Cork would stop in Mallow, Charleville and Templemore and arrive in Dublin in a total time of 2h20 minutes. The same journey now takes 2h50 minutes? Why is this?
