I was in Ireland this past summer for a study abroad program (I’m from the US) and had the chance to travel throughout the country. I was based in Dublin, which is definitely worth seeing, but I have to say my favorite city was Galway. From Galway you can take day trip to the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher. Kilarney was probably my second favorite city. From there you can take trips to Blarney and see the Blarney Castle and we did an amazing bike ride through Kilarney National Park (one of the most beautiful rides I’ve ever been on). County Wicklow is also one of the most amazing places. Make sure to visit Powerscourt Estate and Glendalough.
Transportation from city to city is fairly easy by bus or train
I would say Wicklow,
It is the place where they have taken Brave Heart movie, Very natural nice places with lakes,
Here you can check some info
and also Glendalough is nice place to see,
Well but other part of the Ireland County Clare is very interesting with historical Bunratty Castle area..
All around Ireland is interesting, You just need nice weather and enough time…
The West Coast, without a doubt. Forget Dublin, Temble Bar and the Guinness Brewery. The West is the real heart of Ireland and holds most of the beautiful sights of the country. Fly to Shannon airport and then using the bus or the train, you can start in Cork and work your way up to see the following:
Cork city, Blarney Castle, The Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula, Killarney National Park, Lough Gur, Limerick city, The Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, Poulnabrone Dolmen and Ailwee Mountain, the Aran Island, Connemara national Park and Kylemore abbey, county Sligo and beautiful Donegal. If you have time and money, i suggest pushing from there into Northern Ireland and go towards the east to visit Derry, the Giant’s Causeway and Belfast.
If you only have time for one place, the Burren and Ailwee Mountain in County Clare are my personal favourite. There’s no other place in the world of such breathtaking beauty. Connemara would be a close second.
There is no real best part of Ireland, I know a place along the border however it is rarely visited. Mountains, coastline fresh air etc etc
Your biggest thing will be the weather, when the sun shines in Ireland there is nowhere else on the planet as good, however when it rains (guns are illegal in Ireland) shooting oneself is a much sought after option (I jest) it can be quite miserable.
Enjoy, May and Sept in my experience are quite good.
As stated before Wicklow is a lovely place to visit especially Glendalough.
As i am from the north there is the Giants causeway but as someone famously once said worth seeing yes but not worth going too see
Its hard to pick one area, the west coast/Dingle Penninsula is probably my favorite. I’ve written this article with tips on going to Ireland for the first time (cheapest flights, etc) and a suggested itinerary with some of the best places to see.
