Hello, I live in Dublin an dlast week I drove up North to visit some Friends in Derry. Since I had not being up North before I decided that I wanted to see some sights,we we meet at the Giants cause way. I drove up and it took just under three hours. From there we went to the Carrick a rede rope bridge (http://www.northantrim.com/carrick_a_rede.htm) it was fantasic and only a fifteen minute drive from the causeway. Then we headed to the Bushmill distillery. It was fun but at the end of the its only a distillery.Then I stayed in Derry for teh next two days seeing the sights of the city. I think if you want to make the trip up North you will not be disappointed.

Go to Castlerock and visit the gardens – its on the way to Donegal.

Stay in Derry a while and visit the Walls of the city. Great history. Visit Limavady and the fantastic Roe Valley Country Park and all its history – again on the way to Donegal.

Go and spend some time in newcastle and visit the Mourne Mountains. Go to Ballycastle – its just lovely. Drive up to the Bushmills area via the Antrim Coast Road – beautiful.

It’s a long drive from the South to Northern Ireland – it doesn’t seem so on the map, but the roads here are not of the same standard as roads in the US. Plus you will be driving on the other side of the road in a car with the steering wheel on the right – which takes some getting used to.

My advice: either stay in the south, or do more research on the north and base yourselves there for this trip.
