Dublin World
Dublin – The World’s Greatest City !!
kvndrby asked:

I am engaged and my fiance and I we would like to visit Ireland on our honeymoon. We were thinking Dublin but after looking into it, it seems most Irish wouldn’t recommend it. I’d like to know where an Irish citizen would recommend a 5-day stay. We aren’t much for clubs or heavy drinking but we love music and culture. We’d also like to not rent a car if we can help it.

stick to the west and for gods sake come during the summer, it rains all seasons constantly in ireland but at least if you come during summer you might get lucky. try searching for hotels in co. clare, co. kerry, co. galway….. anywhere on the rest really!

Dublin is pretty expensive, that’d be the main reason for not going.

But I’ll tell you why most Irish don’t recommend it. They’re all from different parts of Ireland and as Dublin is the biggest city and capital they’re jealous of it. So don’t believe the guff you hear from them like it’s a hole or the people are unfriendly because it’s not true. I’m a Dubliner and I need to defend my much attacked city!

In terms of your question, it sounds like Galway city would be nice for you. Not as expensive as Dublin (but still pricey enough) there’s a nice atmosphere in the place and it’s a smaller city with less clubs and more pubs. You could go on bus trips from here to the western countryside (most scenically beautiful place in Ireland + just minutes away from the city).

Maybe Killarney, Co Kerry or Galway City? You could probably avoid renting a car but you might miss out on some of the best parts of the country if you don’t go off exploring on your own! Co Clare is also renowned for it’s music. Try to come during a festival e.g. the Rose of Tralee in Tralee, Co. Kerry or during the Lisdoonvarna festival in Co Clare. Basically the west of Ireland has the strongest Irish culture (no offence to any other places) due in large part to the fact that they are more remote than parts of Leinster. Enjoy your honeymoon!

Dublin is full of culture, but then again, so are most Irish cities! If you want outdoors activities, then I would try the west of Ireland. Maybe base yourselves in Galway and go trekking? But yes, for culture and music South West Ireland – Kerry, Killarney and the Dingle peninsula. The north is also an option; much cheaper than the south. Belfast is a cultured and vibrant city, just waiting to be explored. Or you could visit Derry and go across the border to Donegal which is spectacular; I would recommend it! I must sound like Failte Ireland here, but I would recommend going onto to an Irish tourist website like visitireland.ie
    Enjoy your stay!
