Dublin – The World’s Greatest City !!
ADIL M asked:

My family and I are going to Paris, France and from there I don’t know if I should go to Brussels or Luxemburg from there. Then from Brussels or Luxemburg were going to Dublin, Ireland. So which should be a better choice?
Just to let you know I’m going in August

I visited Brussels in May. It was a lovely old city…especially liked the cathedral and the Grand Place. It was very easy to get around the city. I’ve never been to Luxembourg…

brussels is a city with lots of historical buildings. the grand place is known all over the world and it is a real beauty. brussels is also a city where people do live. it’s true that for several years people tended to get away from brussels but over the last years there’s been serious efforts to put back life in the city.

luxemburg on the other hand is really a business city. people don’t live in luxemburg, they just go there to work.

so if i was to choose, i’d definitly go for brussels

First, the idea of going to Paris 1st and then to go to Brussels/Lux is bad. When you see Paris, both Bruss and Lux are going to be kinda…nothing special.
Brussels is a very nice city. I like the mix of the old and the modern there. Plus many European institutions have their HQ there.
On the other hand, Lux is a small city/country. Yes it is very nice, and it has its specal ”charme” but you might get disappointed.
So if I were you I would visit Brussels. Plus you can take the TGV to get there.

Luxembourg was pretty, quaint, and rather small compared to Brussels. I’d actually recommend going to Brugge and Ghent, which are just short train rides WNW of Brussels. Then you’ll see some historic smaller towns that are a nice contrast from Paris, since neither brussels nor Lux. can compare to Paris as big cities. I also liked Antwerpen, Belgium.

You then should definitely select Brussels as Lux is ok but rather dull for a family visit…

Go to the North Luxembourg countryside, not the town.
As said, after Paris the town will seem tiny and nothing special, but the countryside will be different enough to keep your attention.
(You can also go to the Belgium countryside, same thing, but I have loved Luxembourg since I first went as 11 year old.)
If you travel in August, using hotels you better book ahead in both the smaller towns in Luxembourg and Belgium, as August is prime holiday time there.
If you stay in town, either Luxembourg or Brussels, you can easily take the train out of town for the day and return at night.
Destinations for that would be for Luxembourg:
Clervaux, Wiltz, Kautenbach, Ettelbruck, Wasserbillig (or if you travel by car: Echternach or Larochette.)
For Belgium: Namur, Ghent, Brugge (Bruges) or Ostende.
(If you travel by car just roam around till you find nice countryside and enjoy.)
