Someone with some experience in the area:
Please, give me a ballpark number of total costs for a round plane trip from Detroit to Dublin and back, along with hotel costs, entertainment costs, dining costs, etc. Let’s say for 6/7 days in Dublin during mid April.

I’ve never traveled overseas and am trying to determine how much I should plan on saving.

i just bought a six month ticket moscow houston for under $1000. surely detroit to dublin is $700 or so. hotels may be $50, but may not be on the internet or what you like.. in any country, i don’t lie around the fancy hotel room at about $6 an hour (cost of trip) total time gone… (a week for $1000 i think i could do it) plus souvenirs and extravagances -irish pubs…
i found a hotel in italy for 35 euros (then $40) but switzerland was cheap at $80. i usually get a reservation for the first night then find something cheaper when i get there.
i would hope $1200 tops. ireland is not a wealthy country so cost of living should be lower.
food costs can be cut by shopping at a grocer. smoked meats, sausages, fresh fruits are all comparable to usa, maybe a bit more. a dinner out depends if it is a small individual place with good food or plastic hard rock cafe where you pay for the name and gastritis. $10 should be enough for a plate of food. unless you want a 2 steak… champagne, etc.
and rathole some snacks. not every place has food available easily at all hours of the night, if you like to snack. smoked meats salted fish, and cheeses are good if they store w/o refrigeration. high protein hunger killers.
check the temperature in advance of your trip. take a jacket- evenings will probably be cold in april. wet cold i would think for ireland.
once you go, it will be a life turning point!
