I know I’ve asked similar questions before, but…Tour Operator in Ireland(Sunway) are offering direct flights between Dublin and Dominican Republic(Puerto Plata) from November until April next year. Very tempted to go, especially as there seems to be a LOT to do there and general feedback is good.

Have been given a lot of positive reviews about Cuba and would love to visit Havana but it seems a bit limited in terms of excursions etc. Flights from Dublin would be via Paris.
What do you all think?

Well, this the exact situation about excursions. In Puerto Plata and all the north coast you will find at least 10 excursions you will like to do,
witch is not the case in Cuba due to the political environment over there.
Ocean World, Isabella de Torres, La Isabelita (beginning place of the new world) Bahia de Luperon, City Tour of Puerto Plata (shopping tour for the famous premium cigars, Dominican Republic N0 1 in export of tobacco’s) Horseback riding to a cascade, and about 25 more…..are the off

I would recommend to go to Dominican Republic, if you have to choose between those two, but if you want to hear about my recommendations, I would say Playa de el Carmen Mexico or Ambergris caye Belize …those places are great!!, Playa de el carmen is so beautiful to walk around, eat good, and have great time, Ambergris caye has the most beautiful reef to go snorkeling, also the Blue hole the only one in the world, did you know that people drives Golf carts in this island? is great

I much prefer Cuba to the Dom Rom, the Dom Rom is a terribly dirty place, we saw guys ****** into the pool at our hotel in the Dom Rom, security guards on the gates were asleep most of the time, I hated it, dirty and scary, Cuba is fantastic, Havana is a must, fantastic city with so much to see and do, tons of excursions can be booked via your rep in your hotel, the beaches and ocean are to die for and the Cubans are wonderful people who will do anything for you.

I’ve been to both countries but Cuba is number 1 for me.
In specific when you want to travel around by bus or rental car, Cuba has much more to offer.
Besides, you have to see this country before the system will change forever
CUBA!

Punt Cana, DR is awesome. Last time we stayed at Bahai Principe Ambar. You couldn’t ask for a better place to stay in DR.
Varadero’s beach is awesome, but if you’re not into Cuban food, you may find yourself a little hungry from time to time.
Check out Trip Advisor. There are many great reviews on their website.
