St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th, and it’s a day for wearing green and other Irish customs. Even though the guardian saint St. Patrick wasn’t born in Eire, everything that is Green ( which designates spring and the prospering of the crops ), fun and Irish can be worn or used to celebrate this vacation. And it’s a vacation for all ages.
These are some entertaining ideas to use on St. Patrick’s Day. Some drops of green food coloring goes into anything you could need green, even a cup of draft lager. Anything made with Irish cream or Irish whiskey has the Irish spirit, too.
Authentic Corned meat and cabbage
Corned meat brisket, about 4 lbs.
1 juice orange
18-20 entire cloves
one tsp. Full yellow mustard seeds
half tsp. Caraway seeds
half tsp. Full black peppercorns
half tsp. Entire coriander
Put corned meat brisket into big pot for cooking. Take cloves and insert them into the meat, then shake remaining spices on. Cover brisket with water, bring to boil, then cook for three hours or till tender.
Peel three lbs little potatoes, two lbs carrots and cut into big pieces together with one medium head cabbage. About forty minutes before meat is finished, boil a huge pot of water and cook potatoes and carrots. Add cabbage about ten minutes before you’re prepared to serve as it does not need to cook long. Drain vegetables. Prepare beef and veg on a platter and serve with your favourite mustards.
St.Patrick Day Cookies ( for the youngsters to make )
Box of Vanilla Wafers
Box of Popsicle sticks
Vanilla or chocolate frosting, or Peanut butter
Assorted decorations chocolate chips, topping packs, various green candies, green sugar splatters, ju ju bees for example.
Spread out of the vanilla wafers, with the flat sides up on the plate.
Take the vanilla, chocolate topping, or peanut butter and spread across flat surface. Next, take a Popsicle stick and lay it down with the end in the middle of the cookie. Crown with another vanilla wafer to make a sandwich. Now the children can get creative! Turn the cookie pop into a green shamrock, apply vanilla topping and draw with green topping pack, make a bowl of gold with candies, anything you want!
They are making a great treat for the youngsters to take to school!
Simple Hot Whiskey Punch ( for the adults ) Serves one
one measure of whiskey
two small spoons white sugar
4-6 cloves
2 slices fresh lemon
seven oz. Boiling water
One – Put whiskey, sugar cloves and lemon slices into a powerful glass.
Two – Pour on the boiling water till the sugar has melted.
Three - Sip contentedly by a blazing fire.
Irish Scones
half cup butter
four cups flour
two spoons baking powder
0.5 little spoon salt
0.25 cup sugar
one egg
one cup milk
Note : you are able to add raisins, dates or other dried fruits, if desired. Makes about eighteen scones.
Heat stove to 425F. In a big bowl, mix butter and flour till crumbly. Add baking powder, salt and sugar. In a new bowl, beat egg and milk. Whisk into dry ingredients to make a dough. Turn onto floured surface and roll to one-inch thickness. With a cookie cutter or the base of a drinking glass, cut dough into 2-inch rounds. Place on greased cookie sheet, about one inch apart and cook for fifteen mins.
When serving your Irish creations remember an Irish toast to praise the meal!
